Agropur is currently looking for a Senior Controls Engineer.


Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Automation, the Senior Controls Engineer will be a key component to the Engineering Automation Team and will be responsible for providing automation support to Agropur US plants in all regions; Wisconsin, Iowa/South Dakota or Minnesota/Idaho.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide electrical and controls engineering, and equipment technical expertise in support of production, maintenance, continuous improvement, cost reduction, and productivity improvement.
  • Internal subject matter expert in control systems (PLC, HMI, Drives etc.,), system integration, sensors and electro-mechanical devices.
  • Provide technical support.
  • Develop fundamental understanding of critical process and technical requirements, identify areas of technical risk in assigned projects, conduct prototype / feasibility testing to verify concept, and define and document system design specifications.
  • Develop control architectures, control functional specification, and system integration requirements that will satisfy process and manufacturing requirements.
  • Recommend and implement long-term solutions to recurring equipment performance issues.
  • Provide inputs to capital and facilities plans for equipment upgrade or maintenance cycles.
  • Support process projects and data system projects by interfacing with operators and production team leaders to monitor and correct process fluctuations and equipment issues.
  • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments, in a team based environment, with minimal supervision.
  • Make solid design decisions within corporate established guidelines, procedures, and practices.
  • Develop and enhance applications using Rockwell, Wonderware software.
  • Understand and obey all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Address any human resource needs, relating to those being managed, (in a timely manner) ensuring proper documentation and communication with necessary parties and HR department.
  • Conduct performance reviews of employees.
  • Manage staff to meet and exceed safety goals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle shifting priorities.



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Five years' operating in a leadership role.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Deep knowledge of building operations, mechanical plant strategies, control diagrams, and electrical diagrams.
  • Strong project management and leadership experience.
  • Deep knowledge with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Deep working knowledge with Rockwell Automation's line of Software.
  • Deep working knowledge with Wonderware's line of Software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Basic, and AutoCad.
  • Deep working knowledge of Allen-Bradley, Rosemount, Endress-Hauser, Anderson-Negele, IFM, Honeywell, Hach, Banner, Turck, SMC, Etc... hardware, sensors & software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Columbia-Okura, Fanuc & ABB robots.
  • Good working knowledge of tools, electrical practices, and safety.
  • Excellent working knowledge of tools, electrical practices, and safety.
  • Manufacturing and/or industrial maintenance experience
